Aja

Aja, in the Northern West Bank, has all the hallmarks of a traditional Palestinian town. There are copious olive groves, a chaotic Old Town peppered with stone remains and pretty, modern houses decked out with flowers perched on steep winding streets.

Located 19km southwest of Jenin, Aja is home to a small range of shops and facilities on its main street, but for anything else residents head to the city. This is a small, spacious and laid-back town which retains much of its historic charm.

What To Do

The Old Town of Aja is as chaotic and intriguing as the next, with domed roofs punctuating an otherwise stony skyline. It is a pleasant place to explore on foot. But for a real adventure, head 19km north to the vivid and varied city of Jenin. There is an abundance of political and cultural tourism in this wonderful slice of Palestine, including the surrounding villages.

Where To Eat

Aja is home to one small restaurant which serves up the typical fresh falafel and hummus. For anything more extravagant, head 19km north to Jenin, or another city such as Tulkarem or Nablus to the south.
